Where mountains meet the sea, the coastal road around Dapeng Bay winds along the Dapeng Peninsula. Stretching 4.237 kilometers, it is widely regarded as one of Shenzhen’s most beautiful coastal roads. With lush mountains on one side and the blue waters of the bay on the other, the road brings together natural scenery, local culture and everyday life. It has long been a popular weekend destination for people looking to experience Shenzhen’s coastal landscape.

Along this scenic route, SparkOE’s distinctive “Conch Lights” stand steadily in place, providing reliable illumination throughout the road. Since the road was renovated and reopened, the lights have accompanied pedestrians and vehicles day and night, enduring typhoon seasons, cold and humid winters, intense summer heat, and year-round exposure to coastal winds and salt spray. After years of operation, the poles remain free from visible rust or deformation, while the lighting maintains controlled lumen depreciation, uniform illumination and stable performance.

In July this year, Typhoon No. 12, “Typhoon Noul,” made landfall along the Huizhou coast as a severe typhoon, with maximum winds near its center reaching Level 14 (45 m/s). Its outer circulation brought strong winds to eastern Shenzhen, with gusts of Level 12–14 recorded around Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay. Salt-laden winds and waves repeatedly battered the coastline, putting outdoor infrastructure through the combined challenge of extreme wind loads and high salt-spray exposure. Having already undergone multiple typhoon seasons in real-world conditions, the “Conch Lights” remained upright and continued to provide stable illumination after the storm.

So, what enables the “Conch Light” to withstand such demanding coastal conditions? The answer lies in engineering and materials designed for the environment.
The light pole is formed from high-strength aluminum alloy profiles, featuring a tapered structure. Its wall thickness, taper and pole height are determined through structural calculations, with additional design margins for coastal wind loads. Aluminum alloy has a density of approximately one-third that of steel, reducing overall weight and overturning moment. The light head is designed with a more streamlined wind-facing profile, while the connection components incorporate anti-loosening measures to minimize wind loading and improve structural stability.
For salt-spray resistance, the “Conch Light” takes a different approach at the material level. Aluminum naturally forms a dense oxide film when exposed to air, creating a protective barrier against corrosion. Unlike steel structures that can gradually corrode from the inside out, aluminum does not rely on a sacrificial protective layer to maintain its basic corrosion resistance. Combined with anodizing and weather-resistant outdoor coatings, the system offers enhanced resistance to UV exposure and aging. Electrical isolation is also applied at metal contact points to help prevent galvanic corrosion from developing around fasteners and connections. Meanwhile, the light head features a high-protection sealed design, helping keep salt-laden moisture and water away from the electrical compartment.
